2.10 lakh huts to be converted into concrete houses under Kalaignar Housing Scheme

There are as many as 2.10 lakh huts in Cuddalore district and in the next six years these tenements would be converted into concrete houses under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme, according to Collector P. Seetharaman.

At the grievance day meeting held in the Collectorate here on Monday, he said that of the 1,354 families living in the government poromboke land, 536 were found eligible for the scheme.

Giving away house site pattas to them, the Collector said that other eligible families would also get the pattas soon.

He also gave away 27 house-site pattas to backward class and most backward class families and nine pattas to families covered under the tsunami rehabilitation project.

District Revenue Officer S. Natarajan, Additional Personal Assistant to Collector (Land) K. Umapathi, and Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes Welfare Officer Ganapathi were present.
